"In victory, be humble. In defeat, be strong. In
all things be fair."
--Eternal Grand Master H.U. Lee
Songahm Taekwondo was
developed by Eternal Grand Master H. U. Lee as a systematic program to
develop the students mental and physical capabilities. Songham means
"pine tree and rock" signifying the growth students progress
through and the strength and stability they obtain through
training.
Students work through 9
color belt levels (or grades) learning a variety of specific skills in
forms (the martial "art" of taekwondo), self-defense,
sparing, weapons, and board-breaking at each level. Emphasis is on
goal setting, self-improvement and encouraging each individual to
stretch themselves to their own potential while maintaining a basic
set of requirements for all students. Once completing the 9 color belt
grades the student moves into the "degrees" of black-belt,
starting at 1st degree.
A set of values is taught
throughout the student's training including:
- Courtesy
- Loyalty
- Respect
- Perseverance
|
- Honor
- Integrity
- Self-control
|
These values form a foundation of personal growth
for youth and adults alike.
Development through Songahm Taekwondo has proven
to be a life-changing experience for many students (not to mention
many student's parents!).
